All submissions to the Lay Cistercian Review undergo editorial review appropriate to the journal’s contemplative and theological mission.
Submissions are evaluated by members of the Editorial Board for clarity of thought and expression, fidelity to the Cistercian contemplative tradition, theological and spiritual depth, and integrity of authorship.
The Editorial Board may use generative AI in limited ways to support the review process, including:
- grammar, clarity, and readability review
- checks for theological or doctrinal alignment within the Roman Catholic tradition
- consistency checks for terminology, citations, and formatting
In all cases, AI tools serve only as aids to discernment. Editorial judgment and publication decisions remain entirely human.
When generative AI is used during editorial review, authors may be invited to clarify or respond to questions raised through this process as part of an ongoing dialogue with the editors.
